The Rangers have 25 players remaining in training camp.
NEW YORK, September 26, 2015 –New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has trimmed its Training Camp roster.
The Blueshirts have assigned Luke Adam, Mat Bodie, Ryan Bourque, Brian Gibbons, Ryan Graves, Magnus Hellberg, Brady Skjei, and Chris Summers to Training Camp for the Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Rangers have 25 players remaining in Training Camp. The roster breakdown is listed below:
Forwards (15): Derick Brassard, Emerson Etem, Jesper Fast, Tanner Glass, Kevin Hayes, Chris Kreider, Oscar Lindberg, Jayson Megna, J.T. Miller, Dominic Moore, Rick Nash, Viktor Stalberg, Derek Stepan, Jarret Stoll, Mats Zuccarello
Defensemen (8): Dan Boyle, Raphael Diaz, Dan Girardi, Kevin Klein, Ryan McDonagh, Dylan McIlrath, Marc Staal, Keith Yandle
Goaltenders (2): Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta
Adam Rotter: As good as Skjei and Bodie played at times during the preseason they both need to play and they won't get that chance with the Rangers. Skjei looks like he has the potential to be a Ranger for a long time and Bodie, while older at 25, only has one-year of pro experience. They both need to play big minutes in Hartford.
As for Magnus Hellberg, ideally he will be the starter for most of the year in Hartford and then replace Raanta as the cheap backup goalie option next year. Mackenzie Skapski won't be ready for a little while after surgery and will probably assume the starting role in Hartford next year and then likely be in the running to be Henrik's backup.
