Biron said, "Henrik and I used to talk about our gear a lot and a few months ago he decided to go with a lot lighter pads, it's a prototype that Bauer has got, they made it right for him and when I saw his equipment at Yankee Stadium and picked them up it seemed like it was at least a pound and a half lighter than the gear before. I saw something in his game that he was a lot faster and a lot quicker and it has turned around his game since the equipment change."
Lundqvist switched to a Bauer prototype named OD1N that are 1/3 lighter than any other "elite level pad." (InGoal Mag)
In a promotional video for the pads, Lundqvist said, "when I play the game it's about being quick and reaction time and to have a pad that helps me improve that is a major thing for my game.....you feel fast, your feet feel a lot faster...it is so much lighter than the old pads, especially moving side to side and kicking your legs out it felt a lot faster. I feel like I am becoming faster out there and saving energy. At the end of game or after a tough practice you feel that you can go a little longer because of that
Lundqvist added that he liked how the new pads allowed him to direct rebounds more and put them in places rather than just have them just die in front.
Bauer says that the pad is made with an outer layer of foam and that rebound control and how a puck reacts after hitting the pad are fully customizable. (Bauer)
