Sean Avery is back and he has not missed a beat.
No, the former Rangers winger is not returning to hockey, but he did bring back his controversial style of trash talk on Friday when he ripped Islanders fans for booing John Tavares on Thursday night.
Avery, in a video posted on Twitter, went on an expletive-laden rant toward Islanders fans for their treatment of Tavares upon his first game back at Nassau Coliseum since leaving the team for the Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency.
Tavares, who signed a seven-year, $77 million with the Maple Leafs, was mercilessly booed all night and fans threw plastic snakes on the ice at their former captain.
Avery was not having any of it.
"F---ing Islanders fans, calling Tavares a snake. Throwing snakes on the ice...Who the f--k are they kidding? That guy played 10 years in that f---ing dump with those s---y fans. Didn't say a word. Was a great captain. Never got arrested. Didn't say f--ing goo," he said. "You losers want to ruin his night coming back to play for you guys. What was he supposed to do? Lie during the season? Or was he supposed to give the answer that all athletes give when they know they're not coming back to a team?"
And for good measure, Avery made sure to add a Rangers element of their rivalry into his rant.
"You f---ing greasy Islanders f---s," he added. "You guys get out-cheered by Rangers fans every time the Rangers play the Islanders on Long Island. F--k you."
