Alain Vigneault said after the game, “it was obviously great to see, not just from the standpoint of him being healthy but being healthy and playing the way he did. I am sure he was very pleased and his teammates were also pleased."
After the first period, Rick Nash of Zuccarello, "he was by far the best player on the ice for both teams. Looks like he hasn’t missed a beat."
After the game, Zuccarello said (NYR):
- "It was nice for sure to be back. Play a game....it was fun. I thought we were gonna win which would be more fun but the first one is in the books and looking forward to the next one."
- On scoring, "it's always nice to score, I don't score that often so you gotta take what you can get. It's preseason, always nice to score, but need to improve as we go on."
- On being comfortable out there, "I didn't think about it much. That was great, I felt good. Haven't played for a while so some defensively and a little decision making is off but body wise I felt good."
- On perspective, "a lot of guys who played their first game in a while. I don't look at it as special for me. I am happy being back from injury but it's nothing special, everyone needs to worry about themselves and I need to worry about myself and for me it was nice to be back."
Jeff Gorton said that Zuccarello is such a "huge part of the team," is "so competitive, has great hockey sense and his teammates love him." (ESPN.com)
