The Rangers need to have their roster cut down to 23 players for the start of the season.
The players who remain in camp are:
Forwards (15): Derick Brassard, Emerson Etem, Jesper Fast, Tanner Glass, Kevin Hayes, Chris Kreider, Oscar Lindberg, Jayson Megna, J.T. Miller, Dominic Moore, Rick Nash, Viktor Stalberg, Derek Stepan, Jarret Stoll, Mats Zuccarello
Defensemen (8): Dan Boyle, Raphael Diaz, Dan Girardi, Kevin Klein, Ryan McDonagh, Dylan McIlrath, Marc Staal, Keith Yandle
Goaltenders (2): Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta
If the Rangers send Jayson Megna and Tanner Glass to Hartford they would have $400,500 in cap space while keeping a full roster of 23 players.
Alain Vigneault has said that he wants to keep eight defensemen if the salary cap will allow.
Adam Rotter: I think that ultimately the Rangers will cut Megna and Glass and stick with 8 defensemen to stay at 23 players. If I had to guess at which forward is out on opening night I would say Emerson Etem. I think Dylan McIlrath has played well enough to warrant starting with the Rangers and I think he will get that chance.
