Gonzalo Veron, Gideon Baah and Ronald Zubar will not play on Friday against New England, head coach Jesse Marsch said on Tuesday.
All three are working back from hamstring injuries suffered in the game against Houston on March 19.
Marsch said last week that he considers the injuries to be "significant," but for the players not to miss a long stretch of time.
Aaron Bauer, SNY.tv:
Losing Baah and Veron, and to a lesser extent Zubar, is a big blow for the Red Bulls with a match coming this Friday against the New England Revolution. All three were injured in the March 19 game against the Houston Dynamo, which the Red Bulls' rallied from behind to win 4-3.
Baah has looked like a quality signing for the Red Bulls in his first three matches for the team. Critics will point out that mistakes from the Ghanaian defender have led to a number of goals against the Red Bulls, but overall the newcomer has stepped in quite admirably on short notice and picked up the high press. Baah was visibly distraught after getting injured against Houston
Veron has only featured in 32 minutes of MLS action in 2016 after picking up an injury at the end of preseason. He showed instant chemistry with striker Bradley Wright-Phillips as the team prepared for 2016, and both players' health could be vital to kick start the team's attack. Veron joined the team mid-season in 2015 as a designated player, and has won the praises of the coaching staff. With Veron still on the sideline expect Mike Grella to start in his place.
Zubar's injury severely depletes the Red Bulls' defensive corps. The Frenchmen has not had the best of luck injury-wise after joining the team last year, playing in only 14 contests in 2015. Without both starting centerbacks, the Red Bulls will have to rely on Karl Ouimette or SuperDraft picks Zach Carroll and Justin Bilyeu to fill the void. Current Red Bulls fullbacks Connor Lade and Kemar Lawrence could be played out of position in the injury crisis. The Red Bulls could also decide to play with 3 defenders in the backline in a new formation for the upcoming Revolution match. Either way, despite the bye week injuries are still a concern for the Red Bulls in the short-term.
