Roy Merritt

Bowie Baysox (BAL) 14, @ Binghamton Mets 6

We'll start with something good here first: 2B Jordany Valdespin was 2-for-5. ?He was pulled from Wednesday's game after the second inning and the word out of Binghamton was that he was not injured, which implies that he was being disciplined. ?For what, I have no idea, but at least the discipline wasn't severe enough to keep him out any length of time.

Allan Dykstra (.270/.398/.436) was 2-for-4 with two walks to reach base four times.

It's time.? Actually, it's past time, but here we go on a mid-season review of my pre-season Top 41 Prospect Rankings for the 2009 season.? We'll be going through in groups of five, although this first review has an extra bonus as 36-41.? If I get 10 prospects done a day, we'll finish up next week, and unveil a new top 20 (in honor of Hojo) or 31 (for Piazza) or some other number for some other reason.? I'm open to suggestions.

Three Binghamton Mets, C Josh Thole, OF DJ Wabick and LHP Roy Merritt have been selected to the Eastern League's North Division All-Star team for the EL All-Star Game to be held Wednesday, July 15th in Trenton.

1. Thole

The lefthanded hitting Thole (.346/.414/.455 on July 1) has been at the top of the League's leaderboards in hitting and OBP all year.? At this writing, his line drive stroke and contact orient approach have produced a line that second in the EL average, and fifth in OBP.? Thole has hit just one home run, but his 21 doubles are third in the EL.? I had the 22-year old Thole ranked as the 16th best prospect in the Mets system coming into this year.? He's risen up those ranks, but not as much as some fans might think.? (I swear, I'm going to get to a top 41 update soon.)? The gap between his perfect world projection (Dr. Pangloss) and his downside, still lingers.? Here's what I wrote over the winter:
