Mike Maccagnan was announced at the Jets general manager in January 2015, after he beat out a handful of candidates, including current Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier. After the disastrous outcome of using a search firm to find their previous general manager (John Idzik), the Jets' decision to hire Maccagnan came largely from the recommendation of the experienced pairing of Charlie Casserly and Ron Wolf.

Early results for Maccagnan were good. Having been hired alongside Todd Bowles, Maccagnan made a couple of splashes and some shrewd moves, putting the team in position to make the postseason until they choked the opportunity away in the season finale in Buffalo.

Jets first-round pick Quinnen Williams arrived in Florham Park on Friday and the defensive tackle was all smiles as he was about to embark on his NFL career.

The 6-foot-2, 302-pound Williams felt like a little kid getting to meet his new Jets teammates and offered some colorful quotes at Jets rookie orientation on Friday.

Here are some of the highlights from his first press conference:

Kelechi Osemele is not only coming into the 2019 season with a new team, but a new body as well.

The Jets made a trade with the Raiders this offseason to land the veteran left guard to bolster their offensive line. And as Osemele traveled to Florham Park for his first taste of the Jets' voluntary workouts, he discussed how he is in the best shape of his NFL career thanks to a new diet.

"I did the ketogenic diet," he told newyorkjets.com. "I also did some intermittent fasting just to lean out and give myself the best possible chance to be in great shape and prevent injuries and stuff like that. Obviously that's an anti-inflammatory diet in general, so that's what I did."

The Jets have brought in yet another quarterback this offseason, as former Titans and Dolphins QB Luke Falk will join the team for training camp, per ESPN's Rich Cimini

Falk already has a Jets connection in head coach Adam Gase, as he played for the Dolphins last season. He wasn't on the field, though, with an injury keeping him out most of the year.

A former sixth-round pick out of Washington State, Falk began last season with the Titans before moving on to Miami. He has yet to play in a regular-season game.

Gettleman and Jones intertwined 00:00:46
For better or for worse, Ralph Vacchiano argues Dave Gettleman's legacy is attached to the success of Daniel Jones and the Giants.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

Ernie Accorsi used to joke that the first line of his obituary someday would note he was the man who brought Eli Manning to the Giants, and he couldn't avoid that no matter how it worked out. Two Super Bowls later, that has turned out to be a good thing.

Dave Gettleman can only hope it'll be the same for him with Daniel Jones.

Jets Draft Recap 00:01:37
New York Jets were able to get a stud in Quinnen Williams but after that it was a little boom or bust.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

Mike Maccagnan only had six picks in this NFL Draft, and couldn't come up with more despite his best efforts. So he had to take some risks to fill the holes on his rebuilding team.

And the Jets need those risks to very quickly pay off.

Those risks, and the fact that Maccagnan couldn't accomplish his goal of adding picks - especially in the second round -- are why the Jets' overall draft grade is only C-plus, despite the A-plus pick of Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in the first round. Maccagnan actually wanted to trade down from the third overall pick, but it was hard to fault him for staying put and taking a player some scouts thought was the best defensive player in the draft.

In the first three rounds of the NFL Draft, the Jets found an anchor for the middle of their defense (Quinnen Williams), a possible edge-rushing monster (Jachai Polite) and a future starting tackle (Chuma Edoga).

That's a nice start. But the Jets still have holes to fill. And they only have two more picks to go.

When Day 3 of the NFL Draft begins this afternoon, the Jets will only be holding a fourth-round pick (105th overall) and a sixth-rounder (196). That's not a lot for a rebuilding team that still needs help at center, cornerback, receiver, tight end, backup running back, and depth at any number of other spots.

The Jets selected USC offensive tackle Chuma Edoga with the second of their two third-round picks Friday night, trading up one spot from No. 93 to No. 92 to get him.

According to NFL.com's profile of Edoga, he's 6-3, 308 pounds and has a chance to become an NFL starter. He's considered a better run blocker than pass protector and played right tackle for the Trojans.

So what is there to know about the newest member of the Jets?

Jets get back to work 00:01:20

There's one chance at a first impression, and it appears Adam Gase nailed his toward Jets franchise quarterback Sam Darnold

The key pairing in regards to the future of the organization are still getting to know one another, but have began on the right foot, it appears. On Tuesday, Darnold told reporters that working with Gase has been "awesome."

"It's been nothing but good things," he said of Gase and the new coaching staff.

There are some impressive defensive prospects sitting at the top of the NFL draft this year, including a few that are a perfect match for exactly what the Jets need. They might even have their choice of any defensive player they want with the third overall pick.

But it seems they really would prefer not to make that pick.

According to multiple NFL sources, the Jets seem "determined" to trade down in the first round of the NFL Draft, which begins on Thursday in Nashville. Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has made it clear several times that he's "open" to the idea, though he may be downplaying just how open to it he actually is.

Giants look ahead to 2019 00:02:27
Giants players discuss their optimism for the upcoming season while their newest additions look to fit in

The debate about the Giants' No. 2 pick from last year's NFL Draft rages on even a year later, with some still believing that Dave Gettleman and Co. should've taken a quarterback, perhaps the Jets' Sam Darnold, instead of running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is aware that such talk still exists and had this to say about it on Thursday.

"Yes. I understand that. I don't care for their opinions or anything, I can't change those opinions. Not being cocky or anything, but if a Rookie of the Year doesn't sway that mindset, then I don't know what will," Barkley said.

The Giants' 2019 regular-season schedule is set, as a leak was confirmed by SNY's Ralph Vacchiano on Wednesday. Big Blue wants to bounce back from their 5-11 record of last season, but it will be no easy task with the opponents they are set to play.

Here's what matchups to look forward to this season...

We already knew the Jets' 2019 opponents, but on Wednesday we found out the full schedule -- including a home opener against the Bills, three prime time games, and Le'Veon Bell's revenge game against the Steelers in Week 16.

Most pivotal stretch

The Jets play five games this season against teams who made the playoffs in 2018, and four of those games come in a row -- two on the road and two at home.

The Jets have added more quarterback depth behind Sam Darnold.

They announced Wednesday morning that they signed QB Brandon Silvers, who had recently played for the Memphis Express of the AAF before the league shut down. Silvers had 777 yards passing, four touchdowns and one interception in three starts.

Silvers was a four-year starter at Troy University, where he last played in 2017.

"It's going to be really fun to play with these guys and kind of get a feel throughout OTAs and training camp how we're going to do things," Darnold said, according to newyorkjets.com. "I'm really excited about where we're going."

The new uniforms include five different combinations: a green top with white pants, a white top with green pants, all-green, all-white and an all-black alternate uniform that will be worn a maximum three times next season.

When Trevor Siemian was deciding whether or not to re-sign with the Vikings or join the Jets, it was future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning who nudged him toward Gang Green.

Siemian, who was the third-string quarterback in Denver during Manning's final season in 2015, told newyorkjets.com that he was texting back and forth with Manning while mulling what to do.

It was Manning's praise for Jets' new coach Adam Gase that sold Siemian.

PHOENIX - For a team that went on a wild, free-agent spending spree for the second time in 13 months after firing their coach three months ago, the Jets have been awfully quiet lately. No controversies. No scandals. Nothing but the business of football really.

And that's just the way they seem to like it … at least for now.

PHOENIX - Christopher Johnson refuses to deliver a playoff mandate to his Jets. Mike Maccagnan will only concede his team looks better "on paper." And now Adam Gase has joined the muffled chorus by saying only that his team "should be in the conversation in December."

For a franchise that gave the world Joe Namath and Rex Ryan, they sure seem to have forgotten that fortune favors the bold.

The Jets have found their backup quarterback as QB Trevor Siemian signed a one-year deal with the team, his agent Mike McCartney confirming via Twitter. Siemian's deal has a $2 million base salary that could reach $3 million with incentives.

With veteran QB Josh McCown still undecided as to whether he wants to play next season, the Jets brought in an experience backup for Sam Darnold now in Siemian to fill out the depth chart. Davis Webb, who was acquired off waivers when the Giants cut him last year, is also under contract for the 2019 season.

The 27-year-old wanted a change of scenery as the Vikings were interested in bringing him back for another season to sit behind Kirk Cousins. However, he is now joining Gang Green and provides the Jets with more than just a serviceable option in case something happens to Darnold.

While the Jets have been busy this offseason, there are still some areas they must address, such as a backup quarterback to Sam Darnold

While Josh McCown is still undecided on a return for next season, the Jets plan to meet with free agent quarterback Trevor Siemian on Wednesday, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed.

Siemian, 27, spent last season as the backup with the Minnesota Vikings behind Kirk Cousins after he was traded there a year ago by the Broncos.

Le'Veon Bell said one of the reasons he joined the Jets was because he idolized Hall of Famer Curtis Martin growing up.

And Martin believes Bell has what it takes to follow him to Canton.

"For a guy like Le'Veon, it's not about, 'Can he make it to the Hall of Fame?' ... He's like an Adrian Peterson-like guy. Those guys, they don't have to play 12, 13, 14 years to make it to the Hall of Fame if they just work hard and take care of business now," Martin said, according to the New York Post's Steve Serby.

Why Le'Veon Bell chose Jets 00:01:05
New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell explains why deep down he wanted to choose the Jets. Jamal Adams' excellent recruiting also helped.

When Le'Veon Bell entered free agency this offseason, he always had the Jets on his list of desired teams. And once GM Mike Maccagnan came calling with the right offer, he knew he had to pull the trigger.

"The Jets (were) just kind of the team I had in the back of my mind where I wanted to go," Bell told SNY's Ralph Vacchiano over a conference call after the Jets made the signing official Thursday night.

But the numbers Bell agreed to came under heavy scrutiny. The Steelers offered him a five-year, $70 million deal, but after sitting out a year to keep his body fresh and hopefully increase his value on the market, he agreed to a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the Jets...

With the exception of a couple of vague tweets heard 'round the NFL, Le'Veon Bell was one of the quietest free agents in the league on Monday. If the Jets were looking to make some noise by signing the NFL's No. 1 free agent, it looks like they're going to have to wait.

For the moment, as multiple NFL sources told SNY, the Jets are believed to be the favorite to land the 27-year-old running back. But the truth is, only Bell knows for sure for whom he will toll. He said on Twitter he had more than two teams to choose from. The Jets, 49ers, Eagles, Raiders, Dolphins and Bears had all been mentioned as possible destinations.

Over the next month or so, we're going to be reviewing some of the top draft prospects at each position to assess some potential candidates that the Jets will show interest in. We continue today with a look at the 2019 wide receiver class.

Jets needs: wide receivers

Having signed Quincy Enunwa to an extension and Robby Anderson to a restricted free agency tender, the Jets should have their two leading receivers from last year back in the fold. However, they don't currently have much beyond those two. Charone Peake is still under contract and Andre Roberts could be re-signed, but most of their contributions in 2018 were on special teams.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano shares some insights on who the Jets may be targeting in the NFL Draft to improve their pass rush

INDIANAPOLIS - Mike Maccagnan and Adam Gase set the stage for an aggressive offseason for the Jets when they met the media at the NFL scouting combine last week, in part because they have no choice. They have a depleted roster, tons of cap room, a high draft pick, and a willingness to trade.

So how will they reshape their roster? They didn't exactly lay out a blueprint. But from their press conferences and plenty of info from NFL sources, here are 10 things we learned about the Jets' plans while they were at the combine...

Jets GM on plans for cap space 00:01:04
New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan discusses his team's major cap space and his plans to be aggressive in free agency this offseason.

When the new league year begins on March 13 and free agency officially opens up, the Jets are supposed to be one of the most aggressive teams after some of the top names on the market. And their GM, Mike Maccagnan, confirmed that at the NFL Combine on Wednesday.

Maccagnan and his franchise have everything to work with this offseason to lure free agents: loads of cap space (estimated at about $102 million by OverTheCap.com), a fresh coaching staff that includes head coach Adam Gase and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams leading the way, and a young core that touts players like Sam Darnold and Jamal Adams.

The Jets haven't been to the playoffs in three straight seasons, but that streak could end next season if the Jets land the players the desire on the market. Maccagnan said a plan is in place...

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive: The Jets need all the help they can get as they try to quickly rebuild in one of the most important offseasons in franchise history. So they sure could use the pick near the top of the second round that they gave to the Indianapolis Colts.

Not that the Jets would do it any differently, of course. Dealing that pick (and two others) put them in position to draft quarterback Sam Darnold, the most important piece in their rebuilding puzzle and the franchise quarterback they've been seeking for 50 years. So there are no regrets, no hindsight and no wishing they still had two selections in the first 34 picks.

The Jets do still have two picks in the first two days, though. The NFL Draft is 2 1/2 months away and they'll have to get through the combine, the Pro Days and interviews before their draft board settles down. But here's an early look at what the Jets might do on Days 1 and 2:

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson made his choice on Dec. 30 when he fired Todd Bowles, but not Mike Maccagnan. It was a signal that he believed in his general manager, bought into his vision, and wasn't concerned about his spotty record.

And though Johnson insisted he would never give anyone a playoff mandate ("Absolutely not," he said), the message from his actions are perfectly clear: This is Maccagnan's roster, Adam Gase is Maccagnan's coach, and this is the offseason Maccagnan has to turn the Jets from laughingstocks into a winner.

In other words, as one of the most important offseasons in Jets' history begins, the pressure on Maccagnan is high.

The high praise continues to come in for Sam Darnold.

Despite a rocky rookie season for the Jets quarterback, the expectations for Darnold's future are still sky-high, with the latest bit of optimism coming from former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis

The former shutdown corner told TMZ last week that Darnold has what it takes to lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl since 1969.

The Giants and Jets organizations don't like each other very much, which happens when teams share a stadium and a city. The Jets have long had an inferiority complex from feeling like New York's little brother. The Giants have never hid their feelings of superiority when it comes to the Jets.

So neither franchise has ever been inclined to do anything that might even appear to help out the other, which is a huge part of the reason why the two have never made a trade.

It might be time they get over those issues and their egos, though. Because a trade of draft picks between the Giants and Jets this year makes a whole lot of sense.

Jamal Adams hasn't been shy while calling for the Jets to trade for Antonio Brown and sign Le'Veon Bell. On Wednesday, he went into detail about it.

And while many (including one former teammate) think the Jets should shy away from Brown because of his off-field issues, Adams made it clear he doesn't really care.

"Can he help us win? That's the main thing with me," Adams said Wednesday. "That should be the main thing with the organization."

With less than three months to go until the 2019 NFL Draft, Sports Illustrated's Kalyn Kahler's updated mock draft has the Jets opting to keep their third overall pick for a pass rusher.

In this mock, Kahler has Gang Green picking Michigan prospect Rashan Gary.

The defensive tackle is described as the total package with the ability to play the edge or inside -- pushing him into the top three of the mock. The combination of Gary's size, strength and athleticism makes the 21-year-old a difficult matchup.

Sam Darnold talks Adam Gase 00:02:22
Jets QB Sam Darnold talks to SNY's Jeane Coakley about new head coach Adam Gase, and what he's already doing to get ready for next season.

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has said nothing but glowing things about his new head coach Adam Gase.

The 21-year-old expanded on some of those thoughts again on Saturday, as well as the coaching staff Gase has built around him in an interview with SNY's Jeane Coakley.

"The cool thing about him is he brings so much passion and energy toward the game," Darnold said. "Gregg Williams does the same thing on defense. So I think that will be very contagious for a lot of our guys and it will be good for them to see that."

Who to watch in Senior Bowl 00:00:34
The Senior Bowl is this weekend in Mobile, Alabama. What players should Jets fans keep an eye out for?

As the Jets build their NFL Draft big board, making a stop at the Reese's Senior Bowl this week is a priority.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan was on hand Tuesday for the drills and practice that the top seniors in college football this season participated in. According to The Athletic's Connor Hughes, he was paying very close attention to the offensive and defensive line drills.

The Jets have many needs to attend to this offseason, so with that in mind, here are a few seniors to look out for this week in Mobile, AL…

Their rise from those ashes to Super Bowl LIII has been lightning fast and absolutely remarkable. And to get there, they followed a plan that could very easily apply to the Giants and the Jets.

Here are some of the lessons they can learn from the new NFC champs...

Tony Romo proved he's an unparalleled reader of the game during the AFC Championship game on Sunday night.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback accurately called New England's plays before they happened, and if we take a step back in time, we'll find that he called Sam Darnold's future, too.

During an interview with Chris Simms and Adam Lefkoe for the Simms and Lefkoe Show in early Sept. of last year, Romo sang high praises for the Jets rookie quarterback before his season even began.

Adam Gase wants to be in New York for the long haul.

The new Jets head coach has seen his fair share of quarterback injuries from his time with the Miami Dolphins. Gase adjusted to the injury bug's brutal reality by changing his quarterback 10 times in 49 games as Miami's coach, NBC Sport's Peter King notes. Now, he wants nothing more than to build consistency and endurance with rookie Sam Darnold and the Jets.

A team's character is built from confidence in its quarterback. Game to game and week to week, plays are dictated by a strong team culture and the offense's dependency on the shot caller. Gase lacked that good fortune with the Dolphins, dealing instead with injuries to first-round pick Ryan Tannehill in his first year as Miami's head coach.

Jets dream offseason wishlist 00:00:18
SNY's New York Jets analysts pick each of their top three free agents they want the Jets to sign this offseason.

The Jets have their new head coach in place, and as Adam Gase puts together his staff, the next big step is what Gang Green will do this offseason to improve their 53-man roster.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan will have almost $100 million ($99,387,909 projected by OverTheCap.com) to work with in free agency, and to explore trades.

So who should they go after? The SNY Jets crew gave their dream offseason wishlist for the Jets, as they look ahead to the free agent class and players that could be on the market:
