On Tuesday night, the Nets were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers by a final score of 92-83.

The Skinny: The Nets? ?Big Three? scored the first 14 points for Brooklyn, but Pau Gasol?s work on the glass helped the Lakers battle to an early tie. Brooklyn then went on a 7-0 run with Deron Williams heating up from the outside. Williams finished with 11 points in the quarter as the Nets led by six after one.

To start the second quarter, Earl Clark guided the Lakers to a 10-2 run to take the lead, as the Nets went ice cold from the field. Back-and-forth ties and lead changes ensued before Los Angeles orchestrated an extended 19-5 run to open a 12-point lead. A Mirza Teletovic three-pointer in the final seconds cut the deficit to nine points at the break.

NEW YORK ? After hanging on late for a close win Friday night over the Chicago Bulls, Deron Williams was not in the mood to worry about the Los Angeles Lakers coming to town. He said it was too early to even think about that with the imminent three-day rest.

But that three-day break is now over, and Williams and the Nets are gearing up for their Tuesday night matchup with the Lakers.

Brooklyn Nets fans?and especially those who were fans of the team while it was in New Jersey?know all too well about the "Dwightmare" that engulfed the team for the past year and half. Many thought that Dwight Howard would end up as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, in New York, the Knicks struggled with their point guard situation and the idea of signing Steve Nash became quite popular.

New York City nearly got both stars, but today, has neither.

With the Nash rumors on fire on the heals of the announcement that benefits the Knicks as it relates to Steve Novak and Jeremy Lin, fans can look forward to the Knicks adding to the roster this season. But how much can they spend based on the new hard cap restriction of 74 million dollars?

If they sign and trade for Nash, they still have the MLE, which is a great concept as it relates to adding another veteran. There is also plenty of non-drafted talent that can be added to the roster, ahem Kevin Jones or Mitchell Watt, who can help up front if the Knicks want to go the SG route with the MLE.

With rumors buzzing that the interest level with Grant Hill, who the Knicks recruited several years ago, is heating up it brings up an interesting question for me.

Word is they plan on using Hill at the 2 and may even start him there, but is the right fit there?

I get the system. It's a stretch system that values perimeter shooting. Hill has raised his 3 point %, but he takes just 1 per game, which leads you to believe that he's not the catch-and-shoot threat the Knicks really need at the two in the Mike D'Antoni system.

The Nets positioned themselves throughout the last two years as potential suitors for star players and their hard work landed them the opportunity to sign Deron Williams long term.

What the Nets did a great job of is selling themselves to the media, and more obviously the Denver front office, as real players in Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. This created essential leverage for the Nuggets.

As we attempt to look past the CBA, and try to begin to speculate what is on the other side of the cliff, let's think about this.
