Tomas Nido

Nido, the Mets' 8th round pick in the 2012 draft, had a disappointing 2013 season for Brooklyn. The Mets went overslot to sign him to a $250,000 bonus a year ago. I had him as my #29 Mets prospect entering this year before he hit .185/.218/.261 in 125 PA over 33 games for Brooklyn in the New York Penn League. Playing as a 19-year-old, he drew just four walks in 33 games, just 3%. On the plus side, his strikeout rate of 16% was solid. He's got some pop, but needs to develop his approach, as he talks about in the attached video.

Defensively, opponents were 53-for-60 running against him in 28 games behind the plate, a success rate of 88%. At just under two stolen bases a game, that's a lot of costly bases.

I originally had Nido a little higher and Verrett a little lower, but I'm happy with where they ended up.

I've been a little remiss on the box-score diving with respect to Kingsport the last two days, but I wanted to point out a few things.

- C Tomas Nido?can hit. The 18-year old had two hits both Sunday and Monday?and is up to .310/.383/.452 with five walks against eight strikeouts in 13 games. He has a long way to go as a receiver, but owns an average or better arm.

- Two Arms to WatchTwo guys who will have a really good chance to appear in the back half of my off-season Top 41 prospects list, Corey Oswalt and Chris Flexen made solid starts for the K-Mets this week.
