Through three games, Le'Veon Bell has been as advertised for the Jets, who signed the running back in the offseason with the belief that he could bring his versatility to first-year head coach Adam Gase's offense.

One of New York's bright spots during its 0-3 start, Bell has shown up, taking 76 touches for 284 yards (3.7 average) from scrimmage and a touchdown.

Despite the offense's early struggles -- Bell's nine-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter of Sept. 8's 17-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills marks the unit's only time past the goal line thus far -- the all-purpose back has given the Jets hope for when second-year quarterback Sam Darnold returns from mononucleosis.

Heading into their idle Sunday in Week 4, the Jets have opted to bolster their receiving core, signing WR Vyncint Smith to the active roster off the Houston Texans' practice squad. In doing so, New York released QB David Fales.

The second-year pro out of Limestone College went undrafted in 2018 and signed with the Texans thereafter, making his NFL debut in Week 1 last season against the New England Patriots. Smith played seven games for Houston, which included one start and ended the season with five receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Smith spent the past summer with the Texans before being cut and re-signed to the practice squad ahead of the regular season.

With Sam Darnold missing his second consecutive game with mononucleosis and Trevor Siemian out the rest of the season due to ligament tears in his ankle that he suffered in Monday night's loss against the Browns, the Jets have turned to QB Luke Falk, who will make his first start of his career this Sunday afternoon.

And what a game to make your first career start it will be, because not only are the Jets on the road, but they will be facing the reigning Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in Foxborough.

Falk, taken with the 199th pick in the 2018 draft by the Titans, will be taking a similar start to his career as the pass thrower on the opposing sidelines--Tom Brady. Like Falk, Brady was also taken with the 199th pick in the draft, and also made his first career start in Foxborough, Mass--albeit in Foxboro Stadium, and not Gillette Stadium.

OK, now what?

It was bad enough when the Jets learned quarterback Sam Darnold was out indefinitely with mono, but now they've lost backup quarterback Trevor Siemian, too. He suffered what looked like a nasty ankle injury in the first half of the Jets' 23-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. That forced the Jets to turn to Luke Falk, who had been promoted from the practice squad earlier in the day.

The Jets lost quarterback Trevor Siemian in the second quarter of their Monday Night Football matchup against the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium due to injury.

Scrambling to his right, Siemian was hit by Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett and his ankle was caught underneath his body and folded awkwardly. The play occurred on a third-and-16 play and the hit earned Garrett a roughing the passer penalty.

Siemian was 3-for-6 passing with only three yards prior to exiting the game, which he was starting in place of quarterback Sam Darnold, who is currently sidelined while he battles mono.
