After missing five games due to a partial pectoral tear, Prince Amukamara is back.

The oft-injured Giants cornerback will start opposite Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Sunday as the team faces Washington in an NFC East tilt.

Before Amukamara sustained his injury, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was impressed with his level of play. Now that he's back in the fold, he's optimistic about this Giants secondary.

"We know he's a good football player," Spagnuolo said. "I really thought right before he got hurt, I thought he was really coming along and playing real well for us.

"Anytime you lose a player of Prince's caliber, it makes it a challenge. I think the guys have done a good job to this point. We're glad we have him back. … Hopefully he can knock the rust off really quick in the game and he can help us."

Jayron Hosley and Trumaine McBride took on larger roles with Amukamara sidelined, but that didn't lead to Spagnuolo changing up his defense.

That will remain the same as Amukamara returns to the starting lineup.

However, the defensive coordinator indicated there's a higher degree of confidence with both the Giants' starting cornerbacks back out there.

"I probably won't call anything differently now that he is in there," Spagnuolo said. "He's played in this league a long time, he's a solid pro, we rely on him as one of our real good football players, and to have one on either side, that being DRC (Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie), I think there is a sense of security there for us."

For the past couple of years, the cornerback position for the Giants has been scared by injuries. From Terrell Thomas and his multiple ACL injuries, Prince Amukamara with a concussion earlier this season; to the loss of Aaron Ross?for the season due to a back injury?earlier this month and Corey Webster, who lately,?has been fighting off a groin injury.

It has been a rare occurrence when all of the Giants cornerbacks have been at a fully-healthy state, but they have managed well.
