Yankees manager Aaron Boone went on WFAN with Mike Francesa, and said LHP Jordan Montgomery has a flexor strain in his elbow. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
The Yankees placed Montgomery, who didn't take the mound after the first inning Tuesday night, on the 10-day DL and recalled RHP David Hale from Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre. To make room for Hale on the 40-man roster, OF Jacoby Ellsbury was transferred to the 60-day DL.
Montgomery will not be able to throw for two-to-three weeks, manager Aaron Boone said during his appearance.
He retired all three batters he faced in the first inning -- needing just seven pitches -- before Domingo German entered to pitch the second inning for New York.
Entering Tuesday's outing, Montgomery had pitched at least five innings in three consecutive starts. He was coming off a season-high 98-pitch outing against the Twins on April 26.
