Carlos Beltran has played on both sides of the Subway Series rivalry.
Before Friday's Yankees-Blue Jays game in the Bronx, Beltran spoke about the outlooks for both teams, including the dynamic young duo of Pete Alonso and Aaron Judge.
"I think it's positive for baseball, it's positive for the Mets organization to have a guy that they can build around," Beltran said of Alonso. "Thirty homers as a rookie, I think that's impressive. All I can wish for Alonso is to stay healthy and continue to do his thing."
The way things are looking right now, Alonso and Judge could put up big numbers in New York for a long time, and Beltran knows that would be a great thing for the city that he called home for 10 of his 20 big league seasons.
"I think that would be great for New York City," Beltran said. "Having Judge here on the Yankees side, what he brings to the table as a player, as a young leader in the clubhouse, it's very positive. I do believe the Mets feel the same way about Alonso."
Beltran also discussed what it feels like to be a part of trade rumors, why he's surprised about the Mets' season, and why he thinks Robinson Cano has struggled with the Mets.
