Judge's first homer of the game traveled 495 feet, which marked the longest-hit home run in baseball this season. He connected on his second home run of the game in the seventh.
Gary Sanchez also went deep for the Yankees, who tied a franchise record with four straight games with three home runs. The Yankees tied another franchise record by scoring at least eight runs in five straight.
Yankees starter Chad Green only pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three. Chasen Shreve allowed one run in relief before Jonathan Holder, Adam Warren and Domingo German combined to pitch six scoreless innings to round out the win for New York.
It is safe to say that the Yankees made some big statements during this homestand. This team can hit and can be unstoppable when everything clicks. This team can also pitch well enough to shut down two very good offenses. The last statement is surely the most important one: This team is legit.
I cannot say I completely understand the methodology for today's pitching alignment, but it worked out just time. Just about the only thing holding this club completely back is Monday's starter, Masahiro Tanaka, who might need to provide a bit of length after the Yankees used five pitchers today. If Tanaka gets back in gear, the Yankees rotation would have the wherewithal to stick with anyone else's one through five.
The Yankees offense ripped 18 home runs over the six-game series and scored 59 runs, pushing their run differential on the season to plus-115. According to Katie Sharp, there have been eight other Yankees clubs to get to that point or better after 60 games, and each went on to win the World Series. While, we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves with 102 games left in the season, the Yankees have done enough across the board to be considered a serious contender for a title, and better still, it may be two full years ahead of schedule.
